Check out this awesome quick clip by Seth Godin about social networking at the superficial level and networking to build relationships and value. While some objectives may stray from this concept, his advice should be used so you’re not one of the millions that no one really knows.
Keep in mind though, he is not dissing having a lot of friends on Facebook or a lot of followers on Twitter. He is merely stating that you must be providing valuable content and building relationships. If you have 10,000 followers on Twitter you can accomplish building those relationships and creating value. Just remember the purpose of each networking site and cater your objective accordingly.
